
It is an honor for me to present to you today the top-class jazz saxophonist
and composer Ted Nash .
THE FOLLOWING IS A SUMMARY OF HIS BIOGRAPHY
Ted Nash was for a long time part of the world-famous big band Jazz at Lincoln Center,
which is under the direction of Wynton Marsalis .
His first big band composition, Portrait in Seven Shades, which was created with Jazz at Lincoln Center entstand,
was honored with two Grammy nominations.
2016 he released the album Presidential Suite: Eight Variations on Freedom with the Ted Nash Big Band.
Which was nominated for a Grammy in three categories and won in two of them.
As the son of West Coast jazz trombonist Dick Nash and nephew of the late big band tenor saxophonist Ted Nash, he grew up in a jazz-influenced environment.
At the age of 16, he was given the opportunity to play in the renowned Lionel Hampton Band .
He then worked in the orchestras of Quincy Jones, Louie Bellson,
Toshiko Akiyoshi and Don Ellis.
1978 at the age of 18, he recorded his first album under his own name and moved to New York,
where he became a member of the Gerry Mulligan Band .
In the 80s he worked on albums by Shelly Mane among others, and joined Mel Lewis´ orchestra as a soloist and arranger.
In the 90s he recorded with his European Quartet in France, consisting of Oliver Hutman, Thomas Bramerie and Jean-Oierre Arbaud.
1994 he played in Joe Lovano`s orchestra Celebrating Sinatra
and recorded the album Rhyme and Reason with a string quartet.
1999 he was a member of the Herbie Nichols Project and founded the formation Odeon.
On his Selmer MVI tenor saxophone he plays alongside his original Neck,
an older SST Neck from the Old French Series and an SST Neck from the Matador Series
